Being a mother is hard but it’s probably the best thing in the world. I’ve never been the type of person who dreamt of a family or imagined being a mum, and it is a tough job but honestly, it’s given me an entirely different outlook on life. Everything I do is for them, and they bring me pure joy that I just don’t get anywhere else. It’s quite magical really! We’re a close family, I work from home so I’m lucky enough to be able to do the school runs most days. We spend a lot of time together and although we all need a break sometimes, we are a real team. The best team! (I know every family says that haha!)

Mother’s Day changed when I had kids (obviously!) and we have a little tradition of creating artwork every Mother’s Day that I can keep when the boys are older. The first one we have is just their footprints and I smile every time I look at it. The second one is a canvas with loads of random paint stokes on, again I love it. This year, we’ve collaborated with Treedom to create some Mother’s Day clay crafty pieces for Mothers’ Day. The boys were given free rein to make something that they thought I would like and would make me smile.

That’s the thing about gifts, it’s the thought that counts. That’s why I love Treedom and what they do. They’re basically the perfect sustainable gift for all mother figures this year. (Because Mother’s Day is about celebrating that special person who could be a grandam, friend, teacher, sister… the list goes on!) Treedom lets you plant trees remotely and gift them electronically. Every tree is geolocated, photographed and you’re sent the full online tree diary. Plus, you even name the tree! So far, they have planted an incredible 1.7 million trees. Plus, when you plant a tree with Treedom this Mother’s Day it’s worth noting that they also support over 100,000 farmers across the globe. This means you’re also giving something to those mums in those countries too by building communities, providing training and jobs and food security.  As well as being socially and ethically responsible, Treedom is also environmentally responsible as they do everything from offsetting their CO2 emissions to combating deforestation.  It’s amazing what gifting a Treedom tree can do for your mother figure and the world!

With their special clay, the boys decided to make me a heart and a butterfly for Mother’s Day which we’re going to hang in the garden as a reminder of how little things can bring so much happiness. The same goes with gifting a tree this year. It’s a lovely gift that your recipient can keep and follow online, it’s a forever gift. Plus, you can choose a tree based on what you want it to mean! So, this Mother’s Day you could choose a Caoba tree that means strength or a Mango tree that symbolises happiness. You can find out more about Treedom and gifting a tree here.

Let me know who the special Mother figure is in your life and how you’re treating them this Mother’s Day in the comments below.
